Hotter than July is back for its third year in 2016, this time in the larger venue of Smithfield Square. Organised by the Improvised Music Company in conjunction with the The Big Bang Festival. The Festival has seen the appearance of great international acts such as Gambian Kora player Sona Jobartah, alongside great domestic acts such as Manden Express.
This years festival includes FREE performances such as:
The euphoric energy and rhythm of Carnival will be yours for the tasting, as Brazilian street theatre troupe Maracatu Ilha Brilhante bring out the Irish passion for Brazilian culture with their infectious percussive rhythms. (watch here)
The collective momentum of the Big Bang African Dance Project, led by acclaimed choreographer Catherine Young will raise the roof with traditional West African dance styles and live beats. (watch here)
i4Drum harmoniously blend beats from across continents with Indian, African and Irish percussion, joined by celebrated Indian sarode player Mattu Noone.
We also have a very special secret guest; a Saharan blues star whose name we will unveil a few days before the event!
As ever, we will finish the evening with our traditional Big Bang Finale, so bring your hand drums, your dancing shoes, an open mind and an umbrella and let’s get this party started
Hotter than July is a feel-good celebration of community, culture, creativity and diversity, with high quality music performances from Irish-based and international acts. Everybody welcome!
