  • August 14th :: Open workshop in the rhythms of West Africa for the Djembe drum
    This one day workshop will focus on rhythms from Guinea the homeland of the djembe drum.
    No experience necessary and instruments are provided on request.
    Venue: The Temple lane rehearsal rooms (below the button factory) Temple Bar.
    Time 12-4pm
    Cost: 25e/20e unwaged/student.
  • Six week course of African drumming, getting into more detail of the drum we explore its background, different cultural uses and playing styles all while having a bit of crack and playing some nice tunes.
    Venue: Temple lane rehearsal rooms, Temple bar.
    Time: Beginners (no experience necessary): 6.30-8.15pm
    Intermediate 8.20-10.10pm
    Cost: 80euro (6 weeks).

    Exploring the rhythms of Guinea and Mali on the Djembe and Dunun drums.

  • June 14th :: Afro Eire Call for all drummers and aspiring drummers - Cavan.
    Afro Eire will be running free workshops all week in Cavan town with a performance in the Cavan parade on Friday the 18th.
    Facilitators include Niall Gregory of Afro Cuban group Cachimbo and Paul McElhatton of Afro Eire.

    We are delighted to Welcome long time Mamady Keita student Jeremy Tomasck and members of his Belgian based group to Ireland for two performances which are highly recommended for all enthusiasts of African drumming.

    Its been a long coming, the first concert of music from Mali's lesser known southern neighbor Burkina Faso. An infectious blend of African melodies and polyrhythmic grooves.

One day workshop in the rhythms of Africa

Afro Eire will be holding a one day workshop in the rhythms of Africa for the Djembe drum. The workshop will take place on Saturday 27th of March from 12-5pm in the Temple lane rehearsal rooms in Temple bar.

The course is 30e/25e students. All instruments are provided and booking is advised.

The second course of Traditional African drumming for 2010 will be starting Monday 22nd February.

Beginners/improvers: 6.30-8.15pm
Covering the techniques, sounds and rhythms of the Malinke, Sousou, Baga tribes of Guinea, West Africa, the home of the Djembe drum... Accompanied by full traditional bass drum (dunun) section. All welcome, no experience necessary and all drums provided.

Intermediate: 8.20-10.20pm
Advancing the techniques of the djembe and introducing the dunun drum.
